Knitted Christmas stockings were the project that led me to take up knitting. It took me a good 8 months of regular knitting before I felt brave enough to tackle a stranded colorwork project, but I am so so glad I did.

This set of four stockings for my family were my very first stranded colorwork knitting – and I had a whole lot that I needed to learn (still do for that matter!) but I am proud that I stuck with the project even when they were not perfect. We have just used them for a third Christmas, and they still look just like they did when they came off of my needles.

I chose the designs from the Mix It Up Christmas Stocking pattern I bought from Ravelry. I highly recommend this pattern if you are interested in knitting stranded colorwork stockings. It was easy to read and follow even for a newish knitter like me. (This is not sponsored in anyway, and I have no affiliation with Ravelry or the pattern designer. I just love the pattern!)

I knit the stockings inside out so that I don’t get the tension too tight and prevent the stocking from opening as it should. It works great and when the project is flipped inside out, you’d never know that it wasn’t knit in the usual way.
